Welcome back!

I actually have been using LinkedIn since high school because I had to use it for my secretary job at a chiropractors office. I can certainly tell you, any opportunity or job offer I have ever had has come from LinkedIn. For the majority of the applications I have filled out, providing your LinkedIn URL is necessary. Since I am in a creative field, I did make my profile "extra" but I have had multiple recruiters on LinkedIn reach out to me letting me know they enjoyed the time and detail I put into my profile. Think about it, when you are applying for a job the only thing they really see if your resume and LinkedIn, so you better make it worth it. Heres my tips + tricks:

-Use a PROFESSIONAL profile picture. I see so many young girls using a selfie with the duck face, that's so bad (lol).

-If you're in a creative field, use your header to show some of your work! I created my header using photoshop. I thought it was a unique and cute way to let my personality shine through.

-Connect with as many people as you possibly can! I mean not random people, but people that are in your same programs, high school, company, etc. I am trying to get to 500+ connections because that is actually on a lot of recruiters "checklists".

-Any time I apply for a job, I search for the HR manager of the specific company and send them a message letting them know I turned in an application and offer to connect with them. This makes them recognize your name when they see your application.

Here's your chance to show your work! I added my social media portfolio, website link, and some big projects I completed from classes.

Be super detailed with this section. I included every job I ever had and wrote a detailed description for every single one. Also if you have moved up in the company make sure you show that. I have with Express, so that is why you see the line to the left.

Here's another chance to show more work. I included a letter of recommendation and all of my semester-long marketing projects. If you studied abroad or participated in an extra academic program, you can also list it under education. I am working on making a presentation to put under my study abroad section.

Ok, so many of you might not know this, but when you look at a job posting on LinkedIn it will show you skills that a particular job poster or company is about or looking for. If you look closely it will say this job is a 4/10 match. Well, if you add all those skills to your profile it will let the job poster know you are a 10/10 match and your application will be ranked at the top. These are my "featured" skills but I have a ton more listed below. Also have people endorse you on LinkedIn, some are from my friends and others are from random people but hey thanks you just made my profile look better (lol). If someone endorses me for a skill I will definitely endorse them back.

Like I said, DETAILS. I truly went through my transcripts and entered every course I ever took. It just shows you care and put effort in. Below that, I have the organizations I was involved in and also include a description of how these organizations correlate with my career.

I check my LinkedIn daily because I am actively seeking employment right now, as I am leaving my current job soon. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn and let me know if you have any questions!

Xoxo,

LL
